Kate D leads this lovely, scenic ride. Starting somewhere a little different this time, this ride encompasses some local, ancient sites and beautiful views. We’ll set off towards the neolithic hill fort of Oldbury Castle, near Cherhill, and from there head over to ride along the Wansdyke, over the Wiltshire Downs. Along the way we’ll see burial chambers, canals, a white horse and most importantly, we’ll refuel halfway!
This ride is not especially technical but there will be uneven, muddy, rutty and sketchy terrain and a degree of climbing, so you should be comfortable riding in these conditions for up to 20 miles. Remember rides can feel longer in wet, cold or windy weather.
Meet at the car park just off the Beckhampton roundabout, near Avebury, on the A4 towards Cherhill. There is a racing stables on the roundabout and the car park is signposted a little way along from it on the left.
Please note the earlier start time – the car park can get busy with walkers so we’re setting off a little earlier. Please bring anything you might need – waterproof coat, pump, money for the cafĂ©.
Mileage: approx 20. Climbing: approx 1,460ft. Meet at car park for a prompt 9.30 start.
If coming from A361 Avebury, take the third exit off Beckhampton roundabout, if coming from the A4 from Marlborough it’s the second exit.
