A fun ride on the downs lead by one of our qualified mountain bike instructors, Rafe, and intended specifically for novice riders, those who want to build their confidence or anyone that wants to ride at a more moderate pace. Any other riders are welcome to come too, but the pace will be set for the new riders – no-one will get left behind.
Meet at the Barbury Castle car park for a 10am start. Look out for a car with an MBSwindon banner. The planned route is around 14 miles long and includes some of my favourite local trails.
Bring water and a small snack (e.g. cereal bar) – the ride will take a few hours including stops.
Count us both in, last one was a hoot
‘with a twist’ – what like this months? Almost double the normal length? :o)
The February ride was only 2 miles longer than originally planned!
The “with a twist” didn’t work out sadly.
I’m struggling to come up with a different start location due to the number of people that keep turning up and therefore needing a lot of car-parking, so it’s Barbury Castle again I’m afraid. However we’ve not done this route on a novice-friendly ride before and it’s really good.
Out of interest what about starting points at say the National Trust Car Park at White Horse Hill ?. Its pobably the same distance from Swindon as Barbury.
PS Theres an ice cream van there when its nice !
Thanks for the suggestion – I only live a few miles from WHH so know it well.
I avoided WHH in the winter as the route isn’t great, can be a bit slippy for novice riders, though we did a ride there in the snow & ice which was fun!
I was going to start there this time but due to the recent events & the road being closed (though am sure it’ll be open by then if not already), I thought I’d give it a miss.
But don’t worry, I will be starting a novice ride from there one day!
I’m in, now I have a new saddle after the last ride.
Will be there.
Hi
I will be there, fingers crossed for a sunny day!
Thanks
Kerry
I’m in :0) been far too long since I’ve been out on a ride.
