We all survived the 2010 Bikefest.
We entered:
- 1 x 8 hour team of 4
- 1 x 8 hour team of 3.5
- 1 x 8 hour team of 3
- 1 x 8 hour double
- 2 x 4 hour doubles (mixed)
- 1 x 8 hour solo female
The results for the 8 hour teams were 16th, 19th and 28th out of 42.
- 16th: Team C with Gary, Ben and Lee.
- 19th: Team A with Pete Gowland, Phil, Tom and Rob (part time).
- 28th: Team B with Pete Ratcliffe, Jack, Chris and Andy.
Our fastest rider (Lee) had a best lap time of 25:36 which is only two and a half minutes off the fastest lap of the day. We had a good number of laps in the 27-30 minute zone.
We had a podium finish in the 8 hour solo female when Anna Buckingham (Irongirl division) came third with 11 laps. We picked up another medal when 4 hour PM mixed team “The Framebreakers” (Wei and Les) made 2nd place.
Our 8 hour male pair of Simon and Aidy (team E) came 37th out of 47.
Lee and Jenny were the only riders from team D who made the event, one of the missing injuring herself in a biking accident, the other deciding to avoid the riding bit and go straight to the drinking bit. There was no AM mixed double category, so they had to enter the male race. They did 6 laps in the 4 hours and sped up as the morning went on, but in their category there weren’t fast enough, even though they could have made the podium in the afternoon mixed doubles race with the same lap times.
Most people arrived on Friday night when we did a night ride round the race route. There was only light beer drinking taking place as we prepared to unleash the beast onto the unsuspecting Ashton Court route.
Saturday morning was cold but quickly warmed up as the sun rose. Once the race got going the day became shifts of riding, resting and eating and waiting to go back out. Teams of three were the optimum number in my opinion.
On Saturday night we unleashed the MBSwindon drinking experience onto the beer tent. It was a good night actually, though the site was a bit quiet.
We had to be out before 9am on Sunday or wait until 1pm, due to a running race. We opted for the second option, had a lie in and then a fry up at the Golf course cafe.
Still having a few hours to kill we decided to go for a ride. On the narrow gauge railway in Ashton Court. This time we released the inner train spotter in us.
A great weekend. We had a lot of fun and wan to do more races in 2011.
