MB Swindon April News
Club Events Non-members are very welcome to come along to an event or two before deciding to join the club, “try before you buy” as it were. Our Friday night rides (every Friday, 7:30pm) at the trail continue into spring. We've also got 6 sets of lights that we are able to lend to anyone who wants to try night riding at the trail before purchasing their own lights. These must be booked in advance, on a first come, first served basis. You can do so by emailing phil@mbswindon.co.uk
Don't forget that any events marked with Trail Building We've also got two trail building days and one evening planned for April. It's always good to see new volunteers who are willing to put something back into the trail. Every bit of help is really appreciated, and even an extra pair of hands for a couple of hours can make a big difference. Take a look at our trail build description to get an idea what the days are like. These days are subject to weather conditions. Please double check the events page before heading down.
As always, you'll find details of all the above events and many more on our events page. MB Swindon are once again running a series of training courses this summer and with two different course programmes – Introduction to Mountain Biking and Trail Riding Skills – we can help you get more out of your mountain bike whether you’re a total beginner or a regular rider looking to improve. Please see our training page for further details and to book your place on one of our courses. We're just about to take delivery of two loan bikes that we'll be able to lend out for these training courses (or indeed any of our novice friendly events) so you can join in the fun even if you don't own a mountain bike! Weekend Trips – BOOK NOW! Our club trip to Brechfa last weekend was a great success. For those who couldn't make it we’ve got two more weekend trips planned this year. Please take a look and help us by booking early. All of our weekend trips are sociable and new riders will be made very welcome. We’ll have a range of rides available at them too.
Ladies-Only Ride After the success of our previous ladies-only day, Jodie (MB Swindon’s Women’s Officer) is running another Ladies Only ride (click here for the last ride report) at Cwm Carn in South Wales on the 21st May. In addition to this event we will be running "ladies only" laps of the croft trail during our Trail open day. Croft Trail Open Day – Guided Rides & Cakes! This is an ideal opportunity to come and ride the Croft Trail and find out more about the MBSwindon club on Sat 23rd April. Just turn up in the car park any time between 11am and 5pm. Location maps. Bring a bike if you want to ride or just come along and say hello.
MB Swindon Team Events – 2011
This year we are entering the MB Swindon Events Team into five different team events:
We have appointed an "Event Captain" from the club staff who will be responsible for each event. They will be the ones chasing you for the entry forms and money. Please make their life easier by being prompt with the return of the above :o) Anyone is welcome to join us, regardless of your ability. We don't take ourselves too seriously at events like these, hence the "Events Team" rather than "Race Team". If you would like to enter any (or all) of the above events please email phil@mbswindon.co.uk stating which event(s) you would like to enter and in which categories. Your details will then be passed on to the Event Captain of the relevant event who will contact you with further details. If you would like to enter as a pair/team with certain people then let us know, we'll do all we can to accommodate your wishes. We need to get moving on this, so if you would like to enter please get in touch asap! If there are any other MTB events not listed above that you would like to enter then feel free to enter them under the MB Swindon name. MB Swindon Team Kit Thanks to Hargroves cycles we now have our very own MB Swindon Events Team kit. At present we have a small number of shirts in various sizes that Hargroves have purchased for the club. We can loan these out to people for events on a first come, first served basis. You'll be able to purchase your very own shirt soon though – more details to follow on this. If you're taking part in this weekend's Hell of the North Cotswolds 2011 event then get in touch asap and I'll try and get a shirt to you (phil@mbswindon.co.uk)  Hargroves Demo Day On Sunday 8th May Hargroves Cycles in conjunction with MB Swindon are holding a demo day at the Croft Trail. There will be a great selection of the latest bikes to test ride over challenging terrain rather than just round a car park. Also on-site will be members of the MB Swindon team should you wish to ask questions about the Croft Trail, to have a guided tour or just talk bikes. The event will run from 10am – 4pm. For full details see the Hargroves Cycles website. And Finally… Hopefully most of you spotted Tom's April Fool posted last Friday. Sadly it really is just a lack of public toilets that prevents us from becoming a secondary hub of the 1SW Trail project. Something to work on for the future maybe?
